Happy Five Months Malachi!

Today, March 12th, is Malachi’s 5 month birthday!  You’re 21.5 weeks old, which total blows my mind.  In thinking back to this time in my pregnancy, I was just finding out who you would be.   That the Lord had given us you, our precious son.  I remember being totally shocked because EVERYONE thought that you would be a girl.  I, personally, had tried very hard not to make any such guesses.  Not for fear of being disappointed, but because I wanted you to have your own identity from the very beginning and not one that I had given to you.  Now that you are 21 weeks old, you certainly have shown us who you are.  You have such a little personality!!!

Some highlights from this month!

~You are still rolling over all the time.  You enjoy doing this so much that we’re having to keep an extra close eye on you because you keep trying to roll off the changing table.

~You’ve started pulling yourself up into a standing position…since you aren’t even sitting up on your own yet, I am amazed that you’re standing up first.  Strange boy!

~You are putting everything in your mouth.  Nothing is safe any more.  This includes my hair, all of your toys (and Charlotte’s…yuck!), our food, etc.

~You love to interact with us!  Your personality has come out and you love to laugh and smile and talk to us!  You also have a bit of a temper which rears its ugly head when we don’t do something fast enough for you.

~I am still your favorite person….if you know I am here, but not in the same room as you, you cry until I come back in the room.  I find this sweet and sometimes annoying.

~You are loving all of your toys, especially your teething keys, toy truck and the ball popper.

~You are still trying to cut your first tooth.  Your gums are super sore and you love your frozen frog and cold washcloths to suck on.  We’re hoping that tooth will pop through soon so that you can have some relief!

~You love bath time and like to splash until the water gets cold.  You do not like it when Mommy accidentally gets water in your eyes.

~You really enjoy being outside now that the weather is warmer.  You enjoy our walks and exploring the world around you.

~You are seriously ticklish and it’s hysterical to listen to you laugh and giggle.

~You have also started to enjoy playing independently.  You really like pulling on your rings, making your rattles shake, and twisting the toys on your jumper.  It’s nice to be able to put you down for awhile and let you discover the world on your own for awhile.

~You and your Daddy have started playing a new game where you ride on his shoulders… you have the best time!!

We made a trip to the Upstate to visit with your Papa, Bella, Uncle Chris, Steven and Kimberly, and Dennis and Lori.

You also got to celebrate your Pupah’s birthday and met your Cousin Tyler for the first time.

I forgot to take pictures with everyone else. The trip there was awful.  You cried for 3 of the 4 hours.  Thankfully, you slept for 3 of the 4 hours on the way back home.  We have pretty much decided that we won’t be taking a long-ish trip with you again for awhile.  You haven’t decided if you want to be a good traveler yet.

Hanging out with Uncle Chris (in the Clemson outfit he gave you the week after you were born).

You still love snuggling with Mommy….it makes my heart happy.

Such a happy boy!

Now for your monthly highlights:

~You weigh 17 pounds!

~You’re  27.5 inches tall.

~ You are wearing size 2 diapers, though I think you will be in size 3 soon.

~ You are wearing size 6 month clothes.

~You are wearing size 6-12 month socks for those BIG feet, but even some of those are getting too small.

~ You are on all formula bottles now.  This has been bittersweet for me, but has worked out well for the both of us.  Within the next month we’ll be starting you on solid foods.  I am really looking forward to making baby food for you.

~Other than when you’re sick, you take naps during the day like a champ.

~You still wake Mommy and Daddy up for a middle of the night feeding, but we’re hopeful you’ll learn the value of a full night’s sleep before long!

What a crazy month this has been.  Your Meme has come to live with us for a few weeks while I wrap up student teaching.  This has been such a blessing for you and for us (and hopefully for her too).  You got over the flu, only to catch the cold I got when I started student teaching…sorry baby!  You’ve developed such a personality.  You love learning about the world around you, but get annoyed when something doesn’t work out the way you expect it to.  You also have the classic Hill temper that takes awhile to come out but when it does, it’s ugly.  You are more beautiful and precious to me each day.  I love learning about you, and miss all the time that I have to spend away from you.  I hope you know what a joy you are to me and that I take such pride in you.  Your Daddy and I love you so much.
